Several years ago, I started working independently with people one to one, allowing me to take all the strategy used in a group class & focus it individually.

I meet with clients in their homes, gyms in their building, in outdoor parks, or other accessible, convenient locations.

Most workouts involve total body resistance training, abdominal & back strengthening, and stretching, with the option for a cardiovascular segment as well.

Usually we start with a few "Taking Stock" sessions to assess your current fitness level & talk about what you'd like to work on. Based on individual preference, we can start with concrete health indicators like muscular strength & endurance, flexibility, resting heart rate & body fat analysis, and then take it in all kinds of directions.

    Some highlights from past sessions —

  • creating an audio step workout tape (to music with voiceover) so the client could practice step choreography & do extra cardio workouts on her own

  • coming up with salsa-influenced aerobic moves for a woman who loved the tango & latin rhythms

  • bringing healthy home-cooked meals to a client with a hectic schedule & nutritionally challenged eating situation, then discussing what made them healthy

  • designing a portable total body workout for a writer going on the road for a book tour

  • doing interval workouts in Riverside Park on really pretty days

Most of my clients are folks who enjoy the personal attention, privacy & convenience of our workouts as an alternative or supplementation to the gym scene. The fact that many of them end up seeming more like good friends than customers is undoubtedly one of the coolest parts of this job!
